And surely not because death seems suddenly appealing. Make no mistake about people who leap from burning windows. Their terror of falling from a great height is still just as great as it would be for you or me standing speculatively at the same window just checking out the view; i.e. the fear of falling remains a constant. The variable here is the other terror, the fire’s flames: when the flames get close enough, falling to death becomes the slightly less terrible of two terrors. It’s not desiring the fall; it’s terror of the flames. And yet nobody down on the sidewalk, looking up and yelling ‘Don’t!’ and ‘Hang on!’, can understand the jump. Not really. You’d have to have personally been trapped and felt flames to really understand a terror way beyond falling. „

I am really enjoying this book. I know I don’t fit the target demographic, but it is enjoyable none the less.

What is your vision for the future of Christianity? What kind of Christian community do you want to see?

A:
Honestly, I would just love to see Christians following Jesus. He was not an easy guy to follow, especially when he started talking about loving neighbors and loving enemies and going beyond tolerance to live your life with people who are nothing like you and disagree with you. I really want to hammer on some of these points, because I think they are the hallmarks of following Jesus. I don’t think that Christianity, Jesus or the Bible have failed; I think that Christians have failed to believe it and to do it. If Christians would just look at the life and the words, and pursue Jesus, I think they would suddenly find that it’s incongruent with a lot of cultural Christianity and Christian practice. I would love to see Jesus lead all of us about out of this ghetto of Christian subculture. Even if that happened, we’d still be diverse members of one body, so it doesn’t mean we’d suddenly become homogenized. We’d all still have our particular personalities and gifts. Those differences are good. But the most primary and basic ethics that compel us as followers of Jesus should change, and it would change everything and reorient us back to what it actually means to be a Christian: to love.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Commercial - There’s a Soldier in All of Us (via ATLGamesExaminer)

The fun begins tonight at 12:01.

It was interesting to watch peoples reaction to this commercial yesterday during the football games at Wings Etc. Most of them didn’t recognize Kobe or Jimmy Kimmel on first viewing, and as it aired during other games, they would stop watching their game to turn and watch the commercial airing on a different TV.

For Band on the Run, McCartney was looking a for a bit of adventure when he made this record. So he booked a studio in Lagos, Nigeria. Some of his bandmates decided not to join him, the studio wasn’t up to his expectations, and yet he soldiered on.

Below is a mini documentary on the making of Band on the Run filled with footage from the recording sessions and Paul and Linda McCartney’s travels in Lagos.
